AT COSMOPET, WE INDEPENDENTLY PRODUCE E-PROTEIN — AN EASILY DIGESTIBLE, HYPOALLERGENIC PROTEIN SOURCED FROM BLACK SOLDIER FLY LARVAE (HERMETIA ILLUCENS).

OUR INNOVATIVE PRODUCTION PROCESS LEVERAGES PROPRIETARY TECHNOLOGY, SETTING COSMOPET APART IN THE MARKET.

Reproduction in
insectariums

An insectarium is a controlled environment where optimal conditions — high temperature and humidity — are maintained for black soldier flies (Hermetia illucens).

A single female fly lays up to 500 eggs in her lifetime. Approximately 1% of the resulting larvae are retained in the insectarium to sustain the breeding cycle, while the remaining 99% are harvested and processed into E-protein.

Cultivation and
preparation of larvae

Vertical rearing units are modular containers where larvae are cultivated and fed. Spent grain, vegetable scraps, and other organic by-products are used as the feeding substrate.

Once the larvae reach a length of 2–2.5 cm (a process that takes approximately 5 days), they are transferred to an air separator. This device separates the larvae from the residual substrate — the processed remains of the feeding medium.

The final preparation step is washing the larvae in a dedicated cleaning tank, followed by gentle drying using warm air.

concentrate

After complete drying, the larvae are sent to an oil press, which separates the fat (insect oil) from the defatted protein meal. The resulting protein-rich fraction — our E-protein concentrate — contains a high level of essential amino acids.

Next, the fat enters the tricanter, where protein rich in essential amino acids is separated from it.

Then the protein is dried, ground, and additionally sieved to achieve an optimal particle size.

The protein is ready for feed production.

Stages of feed production
1. Checking raw materials in the laboratory

Each batch of E-protein derived from black soldier fly larvae is tested in two independent laboratories. We verify the absence of pathogenic microorganisms, measure protein concentration, ash content, and other parameters required to comply with UAE and GCC feed safety standards.

2. Mixing dry ingredients

The main components are mixed in the correct proportions. We combine premium-quality ingredients in a mixer to ensure even distribution of all vitamins and minerals.

3. Crushing components

Fine grinding of the pre-granulation mixture in a high-performance mill ensures a uniform texture of the feed and results in a homogeneous blend.

4. Extrusion

As the mixture passes through an extruder, it is heated and subjected to high pressure. This process breaks down complex proteins and carbohydrates into simpler compounds, enhancing their digestibility in the gastrointestinal tract. The result is uniformly shaped granules.

5. Drying

The granules travel along the conveyor through a drying chamber. A controlled drying process preserves the vitamins and nutrients in the feed while removing excess moisture.

6. Vacuum spraying

The granules are then transferred to a vacuum coater. In the absence of air, fatty components are applied to the granules, enhancing palatability and enriching the nutritional profile. COSMOPET does not use artificial flavorings; instead, the food’s appeal comes from its nutrient-rich composition and natural fats derived from high-quality ingredients.

7. Cooling

Gradual cooling reduces granule fragility, allowing them to be safely packaged.

8. Packaging

Before packaging, the granules pass through a sieve to ensure uniform size and remove fines. The multi-layer packaging with an additional foil layer preserves the feed’s freshness and flavour.
